Don Darnell’s visit to Rock Hall and presentation on February 18 at the Watermen/Waterfront Committee Meeting brought history, good news, opportunity and relief to watermen and guest attendees. Explaining in detail the concept and vision of MFCA and its interest and dependance on community acceptance, architectural and financial feasibility, Darnell expressed a continued commitment to operating and re-designing a working facility compatible with Rock Hall’s heritage and economic needs.
After a presentation and discussion by and with Don Darnell, Executive Director of Maryland Food Center Authority (MFCA), both Danny Elburn owner of J&J Seafood and Chuckie White President of Kent County Watermen’s Association spoke about relations, history and future with Don and MFCA.
Referring to the time his family operations were housed in the Clam House, Danny said, “This is one of the best business relationships I’ve ever had. They are honest and great to deal with. They do what they promise.”
Chuckie said during the meeting, “I think I am going to have to take an aspirin, but I want to thank Don because I have never dealt with anyone from the state with this type of attitude.”
In a phone interview this morning, Chuckie continued with, “I would like to say how pleased I am and grateful with Don’s attitude and visit. I want to be quoted in saying that and I’d like you to put it in Rock Hall Wave. I think him being at our meeting was just what we needed. The relief of knowing that Don and MFCA are not totally looking towards our town or watermen for money to reassess the facilities future and operations makes me feel so much better.”
