Although I was unable to attend Saturday’s meeting, I am extremely grateful and encouraged by the turnout and the positive input from our citizens. The Clam House conundrum has saddled our town for many years. Mark Einstein and the Waterman’s Committee have done a commendable job using the ‘white board’ approach to ferret out not only what we want to see in a new iteration of this piece of Rock Hall heritage, but also what we don’t want to see.

I do not view the previous attempts to establish a business on the Clam House property to be failures. Resurrecting this property will be an evolutionary process and in the end we will arrive at the right decision. My meetings with Don Darnell and the Chairwoman of the Maryland Food Center Authority over the recent months have reinforced a partnership that will prove invaluable to Rock Hall. I have to agree with Chuckie White (RHW Article Feb 19) regarding Don Darnell, “I have never dealt with anyone from the state with this type of attitude.”

I am sure that there will be some bumps in the road as we move forward, but the direction is positive and in the end the Clam House will be a community project that we can all be proud of.
