During our 300th Birthday Year in Rock Hall in 2007, then Mayor Jay Jacobs and Council charged Greater Rock Hall Business Association, Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company, Rock Hall American Legion Post 228 and all of our associations, churches, businesses and residents to host and volunteer for events and celebrations throughout the year.
Our event calendar was full of wonderful and fun things to do and attend. One of the most creative, entertaining and lucrative fundraising affairs was the Purty WhoaMan Contest hosted by Sgt Preston American Legion Post 228. The male members of Post 228 and friends dressed as local or famous women and performed for a standing room only crowd with Mr. Bill Blake as the MC. There was Miss Helen Durding, Cher, BrideZilla, Julia Child, Paris Hilton, Granny Clampett, Ruth Buzzy, Dolly Parton, Marilyn Monroe and Brittany Spears….to name just a few! The event raised $15,000.
Performances, makeup, hair, costumes, heels and stockings were the finest. The guys really gave it their all and there was a crowned queen of the ball! For five years, Rock Hall has been demanding a repeat performance. Well, folks…..we are getting what we asked for! On Saturday, June 30th, our Purty WhoaMan’s of Rock Hall American Legion Post 228 will put on a show of shows TO A SOLD OUT CROWD!

i couldnt sleep tonite so i got online to the rock hall wave to surf around. i came upon the purty whoa man article and saw the video and. watched it in its entirety. OMG… I LOVED IT. I LAUGHED SO HARD MY NEIGHBORS PROBABLY THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A PARTY ! hats off to cindy crouch and all the courageous men of the legion !! great job for great cause..another reason i love this town. the rock hall legion has been so generous to this community and others. God bless them !!
